Bill
earned four varsity letters in football, three varsity letters in
basketball, three varsity letters in baseball, and one varsity letter in
track. In football, Bill was named All County Back of the Year during
his junior and senior seasons. He also was named All League and All Lima
Land during his junior and senior years. Bill earned All State
Honorable Mention his senior year. Bill set the school record for most
touchdown passes in a season with 27and most touchdown passes in a
career with 46. He also set the school the longest punt with a kick of
71 yards. Parkway Football was 25-5 during his three years as starting
quarterback. Bill received a full athletic scholarship to play football
at Louisiana State University. He lettered in football for three years
at LSU and upon graduating, held the school record for receptions in a
season for tight ends. At that time Bill was also listed in the top five
for receiving yards and touchdowns. Bill played in the first ever Peach
Bowl, as well as the Sugar Bowl. In 1969, LSU was 9-1 and ranked fifth
in the nation after the regular season
